Chinese medicine is a traditional system with its own framework for describing the body. Our practitioners work within that tradition, alongside the care you receive elsewhere.

Qi & meridians
In this tradition, energy — Qi — is described as flowing through pathways called meridians. Acupuncture points sit along them.

Every first visit begins with your health history, followed by the traditional tongue and pulse assessment.

Here is how a first appointment usually runs.
- A consultation covering your health history, daily routine and what brought you in.
- Traditional assessment, including tongue and pulse.
- Treatment with fine, single-use sterile needles, which stay in place while you rest.
- Cupping, moxibustion or heat therapy where your practitioner considers it appropriate.
- A plan for any follow-up sessions, discussed with you before you leave.

Beyond the needle
Other techniques within Chinese medicine that your practitioner may use, depending on the session you book.
Moxibustion applies gentle warmth over acupuncture points; cupping uses suction cups on the skin. Both are traditional techniques and may be included in a session at your practitioner’s discretion.
A small current is passed between pairs of needles once they are in place. Charles offers this as part of his acupuncture sessions.
Amrit’s integrative sessions combine acupuncture with remedial massage and heat therapies — an infrared lamp, moxibustion or hot stones. These are the longer sessions in the fee table below.
Both practitioners are registered for Chinese herbal medicine and can prescribe a formula alongside acupuncture, or as a consultation on its own. Preparations are billed separately from the consultation. More on our herbal medicine page.

About these session names
Session names describe what is booked and how long it runs — the situation a client is in, not a result. Naming a session after preconception, fertility, IVF or men’s health is not a statement that acupuncture treats, improves or affects any of them. What is appropriate for you is decided in consultation, and no outcome is promised.

Frequently asked questions
Fine, single-use sterile needles are placed at specific points and left in place while you rest, usually for around twenty minutes. Your practitioner stays nearby and will check in with you during the session.
A 30-minute conversation with Charles at no cost, to talk through what you’re looking for and which consultation suits you. It’s for general information only — no diagnosis, assessment, treatment plan or individualised advice is given during the call, and there is one call per service stream. The full conditions are in the terms and conditions.
Both practitioners hold Medibank provider numbers for acupuncture, so whether you can claim depends on your level of cover. Other funds and policies differ, including on whether they recognise acupuncture at all, so please check with your own fund before your appointment — we cannot confirm what you will get back.
That’s something your practitioner will discuss with you at your first consultation, and review as you go. There’s no set number.
Amrit is available Wednesday to Friday and on alternate Sundays, offering acupuncture alongside remedial massage. Charles is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
